https://ift.tt/2N5tJoz got this little table for $5 with the intention of scraping that top off and replacing it with pennies in epoxy, which seems straightforward enough. However, I realized the overall finish is absolute garbage and decided to fix it before I put work into the top.I've never stripped and refinished wood furniture before so I found some basic instructions that recommended using spray on stripper and letting it sit before cleaning it with mineral spirits, then sanding the rest of the finish off.I have two questions. The first is about how to get all the finish off because sanding all those details looks impossible. My best idea is to just detail it with a toothbrush but I'm open to suggestion. My second question is about how to treat the wood once it's clean. I don't know what kind of wood it is or how to find out, but I doubt it's quality and it has a few splits in it. I like the current color, and I was thinking I would stain it to try to achieve the same shade but I don't know anything about the various treatments available or how they will behave on all those carved bits. It could be that paint, varnish or lacquer might be a better choice?Any advice on what products to look for and how to best use them would be highly valued. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2OQtsWY
