I like milk, but I'm the only one in the house that drinks it. I normally buy half gallons (64 ounces) at a time because that's the smallest size the grocery store carries.

Until recently, I've been buying the regular store brand and throwing away a lot of it before I drink it because it's past date. (Yeah I know lots of things are good past date, but I'm fussy about dairy products.)

I realized that while organic milk is more expensive, it lasts a lot longer. Like, several weeks longer.

Want my specifics from today? The brand I normally bought would have cost $1.18 for a half gallon and lasted me a week. I know I would only drink about half of it tops before tossing it. The organic brand cost $3.19 for a half gallon and will be "in date" for another four weeks.

If I buy a half gallon of conventional milk every week (that I won't finish) that's $4.72. Again, a half gallon of organic that I know I'll finish will be $3.19. I know I'm not saving a TON, but everything counts, right? And I'll be happy to be wasting less.

(And yeah I know you can freeze milk but it's nasty when you thaw it so no)
