Hello all! My apologies if underwear doesn’t really fall into the realm of this sub but since it is frugal I thought it might be helpful to review a product that has saved me a lot of money and is, in my opinion, very cute and fashionable.

Detailed review and period talk below:

I don’t see a lot of reviews about Thinx often so I thought I’d share one. Thinx sells period-proof underwear and activewear. Currently they are selling leotards, unitards, jumpsuit dancewear, athletic shorts, and a variety of period panties. I bought the Thinx Sport underwear.

Where I got it from: Ebay, I bought my pair like new but it had no packaging or tag so I only paid $10 for it which fit my cheap budget better than the $34 retail. I was also skeptical so the $10 price point compared to $10.50 for VS underwear made me feel better about trying it since it was nonreturnable. My pair said “real menstruating human” on it which I didn’t really care for, but it was only $10 so I wasn’t going to be picky!

Ratings on it below:

Sizing: 5/5 I’m 5’2 95 lb and I bought a small and they fit me perfect. I have 35” hips and I usually wear a small in other underwear.

Comfort: 5/5 They are super comfortable and perfect for when you are bloated bc the waistband is very soft and will stretch out along with your body without digging into your hips. I don’t have any red marks on my body after I have removed them unlike a lot of my other underwear. I actually find myself wearing these even when I’m not on my period because for $10 they are great underwear. Compared to pads/tampons they are much more comfortable imo. I’ve never tried a cup since I have always preferred pads so I can’t speak on comfort vs that but I think the cup would win all on that since it’s in the body, but these would work well as a comfortable backup to the cup as well.

Absorption: 3/5 These were specified to hold one and a half tampons worth but I think they only held about one. On my lightest day I wore them for 10 hours straight (just treated them like normal undies tbh) and didn’t bleed through. On my medium I wore them for 5 hours and didn’t bleed through, but they felt a bit “heavy” to me if that makes sense so I took them off. They didn’t feel wet, just like they had a bit of weight to them that made me nervous. I think they would’ve lasted a bit longer for me on my medium day though. In general I would say to treat these the way you normally use tampons or pads, if you change 1 every 4-6 hours I’d put these at a little less to be safe; maybe use Thinx for 3-5 hours and test it out from there.

On my heaviest I wore them for 2 and bled through; I think on heavy days they are better suited as a backup as specified on the website. However, when I bled through, what I thought was very cool was that the blood migrated to the entire middle layer of the underwear, so it never got on my clothes. It was like it got trapped in the layer between the outside and inner material, so they technically did hold up to their leak proof promise. The underwear which was a nude color did turn red, but idk, it was kinda cool to see it trapped in the underwear rather than on my tan leather car seat and leggings so I appreciated that.

Material: 4/5 The material is very comfortable on the inside, it feels like your normal soft cotton underwear, just thicker. The outside feels a bit like a swim bottom but much softer and I don’t mind that at all. Only reason I am giving it 4/5 is because for some reason the material on the outside bunches up sometimes and rolls over. It doesn’t affect the performance, just the looks, so I don’t really care about this.

Feeling: 5/5 I always feel pretty dry when I use them. I would say on heavy days it feels like a day when I am wearing normal underwear and have a bit of heavy discharge. Definitely doesn’t give me any “ew I have to peel this pad off of me” or “pull this half dry half slimy tampon out” feelings. Feels like I’m not really on my period when I wear them which is always a plus.

Cleanup: 5/5 I just throw it in the wash in an intimates bag and it gets clean very easy. I air dry them which can be inconvenient if you need them sooner but I think you could blow dry them or dry them gently if needed.

All in all I would recommend Thinx! The initial cost can be expensive but they’ll save you a lot in products otherwise. At the end of the day whether you’re using it as a backup or primary product, I think you’ll just feel more secure while wearing them, and for me $10 for extra peace of mind and no more pads or tampons for most of my light and medium days was well worth it. I plan to buy one of their dance leotards next. They do have panties that hold more than the one I reviewed so no worries if you think these don’t sound like a good fit, their website has a lot of different options.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask and again, I apologize if this is the wrong place, just thought I’d share my experience with an option that has saved me a lot of money.
