To begin, I purchased AT&T Direct TV and I was put under contract for 2 years. I cancelled the service when I moved houses. I was told I’d need to pay $20/month for every month left, but if I could prove that I was unable to have Direct TV at my new location, I could have that charge waived. In order to prove to them I was unable to have it, I had to reactivate my account. Now here’s where it gets fishy. I reactivated my account in order to send a technician out, and proved to them I could not have it at my new location. The cancellation fee was waived, HOWEVER, I received a letter in the mail the following day saying that the charges were in fact waived, but I received a new charge. The new charge of $80 was for activating my account again. So I called them back again and told them I should not be charged because I never used the service, and that even if it had been used, it was only activated 8 days so it should be prorated. AT&T responded with telling me that I’d receive a letter in the mail within 7 days with a prorated charge, and when I received that, call them back and they would waive it, but they couldn’t waive it until I receive the new prorated charge. Here’s where I’m asking for advice. I haven’t received the letter yet, and my “payment” is due on the 24th. It’s also an autopay payment. I have already removed my credit card from the autopay, but I don’t want my credit knocked or something of that sort because I didn’t pay my “bill” on time. What should I do? Ignore it? Call them back without the prorated charge even though they said they couldn’t do anything without it? This has been about a month long process of me calling them back telling them not to charge me.
TL;DR: Never get Direct TV and if you do, don’t cancel your contract early.
