I live in the middle of the desert, and have discovered the wonders of tin foil. My power bill has been cut in half by blocking off a bunch of problem windows in the house that the sun likes to enter. Even WITH blackout shades and curtains on each, the tin foil made all the difference. I had those set up for the first year, and tin foil + those for the second. It's such a drastic decrease in power cost It amazes me.
Unfortunately they look terrible, and it's only a matter of time before the HOA or someone comes knocking on the door I'm sure.
Is there any alternative that doesn't look so bad for blocking sun as well as tin foil does? I see Home Depot has heat blocking film, but it still lets light in. I'm not sure how effective that would be.
