Hey all, just wanted to share something with you that my husband and I have been doing to pay down student loan debt that has helped to keep us focused and excited about our goal.
We started paying down ~$53k mid-2016, and as of today, have just over $5k remaining. While we both have decent jobs that have afforded us the ability to pay these down quickly, it hasn’t come without sacrifice and frugal living that can sometimes be tiring. About halfway through, we created post it notes to put on the wall; each note represents $1k. After each payment, we remove the appropriate number of post its from the wall. Not only does this provide a visual representation of our progress, but boy does it also feel good to rip those off when the time comes.
Anyway, I think everyone has their “thing” when it comes to becoming debt free, and this is just ours. I hope it can help some of you on your journey, too!
