The biggest tips I can ever offer is Mission of Mercy Dental and free dental days.
Mission of Mercy usually happens yearly in several different states. They do dental care over the course of 2 days and they do it for free. X-rays, Cavities, cleanings, extractions, fixing chipped teeth and the like. They did periodontal work while I was there as well as had a staff of dentists for children. They are lifesavers. In Iowa last year a girl I brought with me was given partial dentures due to the number of teeth she had to have pulled. I'm not saying they do that for everyone (each MoM may be different and she was a unique case) but I do know they say their mission is to make people pain free, comfortable, and happy to smile. This year I will be attending the one in Illinois in late July.
Yes there is lines. Yes get there early and plan to stay late depending on what you are having done. Even maybe plan to go the 2nd day. But if you can go, even if it's for a cleaning, go. You would be amazed at the amount of help and kindness that they offer. It was a terrible, tiring, long 2 days but I left so incredibly happy.
The 2nd piece of advice is free dental days. Kinda the same as what I described with Mission of Mercy, but more limited. A lot of dentists partner for free dental days. They usually offer limited services such as a cleaning, extraction or 1 cavity filled at a time. Meaning if you want more work done than 1 of the above you have to get back in line. There are usually several events at different times of the year, and sometimes they are not as local as you would like... but a couple hour drive for an achy tooth? I'll take it.
I'm sorry if this kinda piggy backs off of u/jahlove24 's post. I just wanted as many people to see as possible and I didn't see it suggested anywhere. Also sorry for any typos, etc. I just got home from work and I am a bit rushed. If anyone has any questions for me I would be more than happy to answer if I can
