So 2 hours ago, approximately 9:30 pm my time, I drove up to my banks atm to make a deposit into my checking account. My car payment (from the same bank) is due on the 5th, and my checking account is set up to automatically draft the payment. I was depositing $93, the amount that I was short for my car payment.
So, like usual I insert my card, enter my pin, and tap "make a deposit." The screen asked cash or check, I tapped cash, then directed me to place the entire pile (3 $20's, 2 $10's, 2 $5's, and 3 $1's) into the slot that was flashing green. I put the whole into the slot and it sucked it up. The machine then spent approximately 7 minutes stuck on the processing screen, before the machine declared that there was an error and that the transaction was cancelled. It returned my card, but not the cash. It gave me no receipt.
I immediately inserted my card again, checked my balance, and was devasted to learn that it hadn't changed. I opted to have a receipt printed of this transaction. I then sat in the drive through for 5 more minutes and checked my balance again, just in case. But nope, no dice.
So that's what I'm at now. My bank doesn't have a 24 hour number, so I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow to call them. I'm scared out of my mind that the money is lost forever. I don't have another $93 to cover my car payment. If I can't recover that money then my car payment will end up being at least a week late. My credit can't handle that, and I been working so hard to build it up. Has anyone ever experienced this? Is there a usual way this type of situation works out? I appreciate any and all advice, because at this point I don't know if I'll even be able to sleep tonight.
