Background: I work overseas and my place of work has a salary scale so all of us know based upon schooling and experience how much each of us makes. We get a generous package that includes housing and travel back to our home of record once a year. The developing nation we live in is a very easy place to live a good life without spending too much money. Yet, most of my coworkers are incapable of saving more than a tiny percentage of their salary if any at all. My wife and I have been saving carefully and as a result were able to purchase our dream home recently. I want to talk about it and be excited, but I can't because it usually brings on complaints from coworkers that they can't afford to buy a house. Now I know that most of them make more money than us, but they just spend it stupidly (in my opinion). I'd like to explain to them how it is that we could buy a house and they have to ask for an advance every month but I know it would fall on deaf ears at best but more likely piss them off.
