TL;DR version: Help, I have no pants! Tell me where you find your comfy, simple, straight-ish-leg pants with non-standard waist sizes.
Long version: So, I'm in a bit of a predicament in the realm of legwear. I am very particular about what I wear in terms of comfort and style. I am also a pants size that only seems to exist at H&M (and then only if I do some serious hemming). This all adds up to mean that at the moment, I only have pants that are suitable for work -- my casual options are approaching zero (a.k.a. one pair of extremely ugly sweatpants). I'm hoping that you wonderful people can help break me out of what appears to be a dark tunnel of fashion disaster and let me know how you solve your casual pants dilemmas!
Here's the facts:
- MOVEMENT I am very active and will not wear jeans because I do lots of squatting and bending throughout my day, but I also don't like the extremely-formfitting nature of leggings, jeggings, or yogapants.
- SIZE In typical U.S. pants sizes, I am smack in-between a 0 and a 2 short, meaning that when I try on a 0 it generally cuts off my circulation and when I try on a 2 I can fit 3 fingers transversely between the flopping waist of the pants and me -- I swear, the waist of the pants will flap like a flag in the wind or bow out like the lip of a vase in which I am the single wilting flower. I've tried on pants at a wide variety of brick and mortar stores and had no luck other than at H&M with their sizes 2 through 4. My actual measurements are 28" inseam, 34" hips, 27" waist.
- STYLE I like joggers and straight- or slightly-tapered leg pants because they suit my petite-banana-but-with-serious-muscles frame. Because I live in a colder climate, I'm not interested in shorts or capris, but I love being able to roll pants up on warm days. I avoid prints and patterns that will go out of style quickly.
- COLOR? I could totally use a pair of casual khaki, dark green or deep-red colored casual pants, but at the moment I would go for any neutral color other than pure black.
- $ MOOLAH $ I'm definitely willing to pay more for something that fits and will remain useful for years, but once we start getting past $65 for a single item my brain tends to shut down and it would take some seriously awesome pants to overcome the auto-shutdown feature.
I know I'm not the only person who has trouble finding pants that fit, so I hope I can rely on the collective knowledge and experience of folks in this community. Do you have any pieces of advice about where to look for pieces that would suit both my size and my lifestyle?
