Let me preface this by saying I'm not an Amazon Prime member, and I am aware that Amazon does often have very competitive prices.

I typically try to buy all of my household non-perishables online so I can easily compare prices and make sure I keep everything in stock to avoid the quick trip to my small town store where prices are pretty inflated (I do like to support local, and their groceries are competitive, but things like laundry detergent are impractically expensive)

I've started comparing just between Amazon and Walmart because between the two sites they win 90% of the time, and I order enough at once to get free shipping. Since starting this practice I was actually surprised to find that Walmart typically beats Amazon on most things I'm willing to buy in bulk. For examples tonight I ordered Tums, dryer sheets, laundry detergent, Swiffer pads, body wash, tissues, cat food, and cat litter, and all were better deals through Walmart.

Amazon typically wins in one off situations such as lighters, whisks, batteries, light bulbs(sometimes).

Also, it doesn't hurt to look outside of these two powerhouse companies as you never know where you'll find a surprise deal.

TL;DR: Don't just assume Amazon has the best bargains. I find that Walmart is cheaper on a lot of items, and just wanted to remind everyone to look around from time to time.
