Mean time between failures is the average time it takes a product to fail. This is a common measurement for commercial and military products. It's important to know the mean time between failures or the lifespan of a specific part within a given group of parts so that you can calculate cost and or when a given part needs to be replaced to maintain reliability.

For example Wings for aircraft like the F-16 and A-10 have a life span due to stress from G-force and other routine factors. It is critical to know when wings need to be replaced lest the accident rate will skyrocket and consequent operations costs.

Various car related parts experience similar life span challenges. For example tires only last 3-4 years.

Is there a database for the length of life for various consumer products? For example the average lifespan of an Apple Iphone, the average lifespan of various cars, the average lifespan of a washer/dryer or a fridge...

If we could establish the average lifespan of various products and or their components we could more easily buy products that're more reliable and longer lasting.

Post sentiment, Yes measuring the average life of a car or other especially expensive products is pretty common but it's less common for cheaper yet commonly bought products like laptops or phones.
