So, here is the deal, I am 26. I make a decent amount of money (six figures). I work in startups, etc.
Every time I sign contracts, leases or receive equity, I just assume that the people are acting with honesty. I look over contracts and make sure nothing too crazy is in there.
But I don't really have a clue what I am signing, whether it is in my best interest or if it is even legal. Someone at work suggested finding a lawyer and basically just funneling all contracts and agreements through them. My dad has also done the same thing since he was around my age. So this might be typical, but I am not really sure or where to start.
My question is: Is this a smart idea? Is this typical? How do I find a lawyer and communicate to them that I basically want to use them for any contracts or legal things I need? I assume it might cost me like a couple hundred dollars to run contracts by them, but I honestly sign maybe 1 a year but want to make sure I am not getting screwed, especially as the dollar costs of things ramp up.
I am planning on going freelance or starting my own business in the next few years so that is also a bit of it as well.
