So the main items to be cut will be e.g. mild steel tube up to 3/4mm, mild steel sheet for some basic fabrication, as well as mdf. I havn't used alu or plywood yet, but who knows.Budget is limited but not hacksaw level :P Mitre/chop saws would be toooo big and/or expensive, portaband would be nice but big, $$$, and not made for sheet material.Three options that make most sense:angle grinder with slitting discs (no wood, no alu, nontrivial risk of crazybonkers injuries, cheap but probably makes up for it having to buy more PPE, definitely not in the apartment with the sparkshow, but very flexible/mobile)jigsaw (not sure about on steel tube, seems to produce untidy cuts generally, but multimaterial)a mini /"compact" circular saw like the Worx or Dremel (no idea about the quality or upper limit of cutting ability of these, reports vary, some claim to cut steel, some don't)or just a multifunction circular saw like the Evolution Rage (big, loud, clunky, probably can't cut in the apartment, but cheap and capable).Current tools are just a drill and an oscillating multitool that I've used for various bits and bobs, and it'd be nice to minimize the overlap - e.g. I was thinking the angle grinder would be useful for shortening bolts/screws, but I remembered the oscillating tool can take care of that, as well as stuff like wood notching/grooving.My preference is the compact circular saw, but I don't want to buy a piece of cr*p that isn't going to last. So, opinions? Horror stories about grinders to sway me to a c-saw? Reliability reports for the mini c-saws?(UK, if anyone has something they want to sell :) via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2Ef9jpJ
