In which aspects in your personal experiences it's possible to optimize frugal life style that becomes compatible with modern life?

e. g. when friends invite to a bar, instead of eating there as well, I dine previously at home and only expense a little in on or two glass of wine. that doesn't prove me from their company and I've fun as well
