I am an ex-muslim. I and my now ex-wife separated last year. Our divorce finalized last month. I knew we weren't going to make it. So after our separation, I started to simplify my life. I threw out everything that I didn't need in this life.

Along this journey of life simplification, I ended up losing my faith and stopped practicing Islam completely. I think my divorce and my subsequent questioning of life led me to see organized religions simply as tools to control masses. 20 people can live in a village with reasonable harmony without a religion. But 20 million people living in a city need a common myth to believe in to create harmony.

There is just so many things to worry about in life if you are a believer. Life is supposed to be very complicated and very difficult as getting God's approval in the afterlife isn't cheap.

I now think all religious rules and boundaries are nothing but man-made. I let myself off the wagon completely. I had my first drink in my life, first non-fast Ramadan and so on. I am 32 years old btw.

I am just curious to hear how your views on religion have changed after you started to live a simpler life.
