Hi everyone! I'm thinking about building a home office in part of my currently unfinished basement. The house was built in 1963... the walls upstairs are rock lath and plaster and the basement walls are concrete with a 1/4" of plaster over everything. The basement is humid in the summer (western MA) but we almost never get water unless it's a big downpour and we might have a spot by the bulk head door.If/when I do finish part of the basement, I'm planning to do 2x4 walls with a PT bottom plate and faced R13 insulation.I'm trying to figure out if this humidity is normal or could potentially pose a problem. I have to think that if a lot of water is seeping through the walls, the plaster would have deteriorated by now. The floor is plain concrete. Think it could be coming in there? I plan to tape down some plastic to see if that shows any moisture, but I don't know if that's a good test this time of year? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!!! via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2AEEPvu
