I moved out of an apartment complex in July 2015. I do not think I left my new mailing address. Fast forward, 3 months later I get a letter from a collection agency saying I owe the apartment complex about $200 for repairs. No problem, I pay it would thinking because I lived in that apartment for many years and I’m sure they’d need to clean up and repaint and all that. I paid it immediately because I was a dumb 19 year old who just took it at face value that I owed them money.

Then I get a notice that the collection agency sent a notice to Equifax. It shows that I owe $0 (the debt is closed) but it is still hurting my credit and I am getting denied credit cards because of it despite an overall fantastic credit rating.

The old apartment complex probably sent it immediately to collections because I didn’t leave a mailing address, definitely my fault. At the same time, I paid that debt right away. Is there anyway I can get this shit off my credit report? I know there is such a thing as “pay for delete” I would like to do something like that.
