After looking up how much owning a cat (or any pet really) actually costs, I got a bit annoyed at how much variation (and consumerism inflation) there was in the numbers. Some places said it would be thousands and others were more modest (none frugal though...) so I'm doing my own ongoing analysis of how much it costs to own a pet! In this case my cat. Anytime I spend money on my pet I log it to this live google spread sheet:
So far my estimates put me at around $350 in the first year. Well below the ASPCA's estimate of "$1174 just in the first year of owning a cat" and my kitty has a cushy lifestyle.
