yo guys!
as the title says, I'm a musician. I rely heavily on social media as a promotional platform. I use facebook, twitter, instagram and soundcloud to communicate with my fans, share new music, promote shows and events, and find out about local, underground shows that I might want to attend. at this point it's the lifeblood of what career i've managed to develop.
still, though, i find that social media has a substantial, mostly negative impact on my mood. i find myself comparing myself to others and vying for approval from my peers (or people i scarcely know). sometimes i even feel like i'm conforming to posts or trends that i see for said approval. social media is also saturated with advertising, corporate messages, negative posts, and watered-down iterations of black culture that have long since grown stale. twitter, instagram, and facebook (especially) feel like the worst kind of small-town strip mall.
has anyone on here developed strategies for managing an art career online while minimizing their time on social media platforms? I'm open to any suggestion.
thank you.
