Just updated a spreadsheet where I record monthly expenses, then added average temperatures. The costs are shifted up a month to align with the utilization of the costs. The correlation between temperatures and utilities is expected but still interesting. Some demographics:
-
~2200 sqft
-
Single story ("Ranch") with finished basement
-
2 adults, no kids, ~30 years old
-
We keep the utilities towards uncomfortable, opting for fans in the summer and blankets in the winter, and both work during the day so the thermostat goes a little more towards uncomfortable accordingly
-
This year I installed a smart sprinkler controller and mostly let it automatically water based on temperatures and whatnot
- A well is being drilled sometime within the next week so it can water a little more freely next year without the associated charges
Anybody else care to share?
Edit: I do not think the water meter is read every month so those are probably not entirely accurate...but assuming they are, it seems $550-600+ went towards watering the yard. That is a lot more than last year, when I manually programmed the old box, and most of my motivation to get a well.
Note: the actual water numbers would suggest more than that but we had people living with us for a total of maybe two months so I offset it some.
