Writing as a follow-up to my previous post regarding Iron and Vitamin D via prescription. I would have edited my post but I can't edit the title.

Many people aren't aware of the fact that your medical/prescription plan has a document called a "formulary", which includes a list of all medications covered by the plan.

I am actually one of those people who reads through this, and was surprised to find that plan at one of my old jobs includes coverage for medications such as Claritin, Allegra, Famotidine (Pepcid), and many other OTC medications.

I had to convince the doctors to send it in, and then I had to switch pharmacies because the first one simply reefused to even try to process it (they actually had it behind the counter with labels and everything, just didn't want to run it through insurance). Once I switched pharmacies, I was able to get significant savings on many typically OTC medications.

Hope this helps. This may not work with all plans, but it may be useful if you take certain medications regularly.
