I have to go back home after living and studying in the US for 6 years now as an international. This is because I had secured a new job in NYC and had been scheduled to start, before the employer decided they did not want to deal with international students since new regulations that were not quite clear about employing internationals on contract basis.

The trouble was that I had already been a given a start date and got a place to stay in the new city. I had not been offered a moving package but had decided to take the role as it offered more career advancement opportunities. So I was now stuck with a new lease, which I had got into debt to get.

Unfortunately, I have to leave the country because I was subsequently unable to get a role after that, and my visa dictates that I immediately leave when that happens. So, I am hoping to find ways of putting my debt on hold/ creating a payment plan with credit companies so that I do not abscond on my debt.

I am looking to returning next year for a graduate degree, and just want to know ways I can best handle this without ruining my credit history. Currently all areas of my credit history are good except credit utilization, and I simply have no way of paying off the debt right now.
