Here's my math so far.
Estimated wattage of baseboard heater: (http://ift.tt/2h2rFPQ)
8.5 feet * 225 watts = 1912.5 watts. There are several of them but normally only one in use at a time.
Power cost: 8.29¢/kWh.
Estimated usage of about 8 hours a day during winter. (This is my parents house and they are damned cheap.)
So 1912.5/1000*.0829 = ~.16¢/hour, or $1.26 per day.
Does that sound right to all of you guys? I'm trying to build a business case to get them to install a heat pump. Based on how frugal they are already, I'm not certain they'll actually save money, but I was thinking maybe they can spend the same amount but they can heat the whole house as well.
There's up to $1200 in government rebates available for homeowners who install heat pumps, but I haven't gotten a quote on the cost and installation yet. Anyone want to make bets on whether I'll be able to make my case?
