Greetings r/DIY. This past Saturday I was going about my first attempt to clean some smoke residue off of the brick facade surrounding the wood fireplace opening on my wall. I applied a mix of baking soda + dish soap, then scrubbed, then sprayed off the mixture with a hand-squeeze bottle of tap water. I also wiped the inside of the fireplace with the wet rag before throwing it out, to try to get some of that soot off for good measure.Since the bricks got wet, it has had a strong smell. I've ran fans all day one day, I took a hair dryer to the bricks another day, space heater one day, and now have a bowl of vinegar sitting in there. There is still a strong smell coming from the fireplace, as if it was still wet, several days later. This is driving me crazy, and I'm running out of google search terms. What can I do to stop the smell? On the side note, the brick facade is clean now... yay. Thanks via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2xyAVp8
