Hi so in April I signed up at this website that claimed I could access certain ebooks if I get a membership. To access the sources I signed up because they had a 4-day free trial. I gave bank details to an old pre-paid VISA that no longer has any money on it. I stopped the membership before the 4 days because the website didn't have the book I needed after all and I didn't want to get charged for it. Two days ago I got an email saying something like
''We have already sent you several letters that have been commissioned to collect the claim of _website Unfortunately we haven;t received your payment On _(date) you have knowingly registered on our client's website with your personal data (verified IP address and this email)and agreed to the terms and conditions during the registration process. Our client refers to the fulfillment of your contractual obligations. This amount has to be paid until ____ (date) at the latest to avoid further costs and inconveniences. ''
And then at the end, it says that this company who sent me this email is a registered legal service provider for debt collection.
I don't really understand how this could have happened, I mean yes I should have read the terms and conditions but usually, your membership just gets canceled if you don't pay and you can't access your account anymore but here they want me to pay for it.
Can anyone give me advice on this? (sorry if this was asked before, I have never been in this situation before)
