Knowing how to save should be pretty simple, right? Unfortunately I'm god-awful at it and need some tips on how to incentivise myself to save better when I'm acting impulsively. My ADD affects this/how I think so its hard for me to focus on the bigger picture when I'm in an impulsive way.
My income:
130 p/w from my part time job
170 p/w student loan living allowance (this is a loan but it is interest free)
My expenses:
10 p/w gas
60-80 p/w food (at least this is the ideal... I often go over this because I have trouble "wanting" to eat, which makes it difficult to motivate myself to cook at all)
40 p/fortnight for counselling
10 p/month medication
EDIT: forgot, 20 p/month for phone bill.
Thats about it.... of course theres occasional stuff (vet fees, flea treatment etc for my cats) but like... Looking at my expenses I could be living on less than 200 (I need to be able to save ofc) but I find it very difficult. Granted, just recently my harddrive failed (putting me out of 80 dollars for an assessment fee, so really not much) but I actually have NO CLUE where my money goes.
I wanted to get a term deposit so I could strengthen my incentive to save, but I dont have the minimum required to open one, which is 5k.
ATM I have 1k in savings which is frankly preposterous considering I stopped having to pay rent/electricity etc about 2 months ago. I usually put 150-200 of my money into a separate account that can only be accessed via ATM or online banking, but I always end up transferring some of it back because of my poor impulse control. So obviously this style isnt working, and I need some new strategies.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd be very grateful.
Thank you.
PS. I apologise if this is too generic but I do consider my situation to be a bit more complicated than "How do I save" because I have an actual mental condition that makes it a bit more complicated, however if the mods choose to remove this I understand. Thanks again.
