I think I got most of my point in the title. My state is an at-will state and I don't think there will be any contract commitments to worry about. So I could accept my 2nd choice job and if I get the offer from my first choice in a few weeks, back out of the 2nd choice job. That seems kind of unprofessional though (even though they could terminate me without cause if they wanted to). Should I give the first few prospective employers a date by which I will accept? Should I tell the prospective employer with whom I want to be employed that I have other offers on the table, but they are my first choice and request an answer from them asap? Thanks for any input.
EDIT: I don't interview with my first choice employer until next week. I plan to ask them at that time what the time-line is. The other thing I could do is email their HR dept. now and ask what the time-line is, but I think I should wait until I'm there in-person to ask that question. The other employers have interviewed me over the phone already and have indicated a desire to hire me but I am meeting with them in person today and tomorrow. They both already know me though through us all working in the same field, so those interviews today and tomorrow are a bit of formality. I plan on telling them honestly that I have a few more interviews coming up soon and would like to see those through before I accept. Then I'll see if I can hammer out a date they need my answer by.
