So I work at a bar. The bar recently changed how we receive our credit cards tips. Instead of getting them in cash at the end of the night, we have a log where our tips are recorded and then they go on our bi-weekly paycheck. They made this change because some people weren't reporting their tips and the bar got audited.

We do a tip share. Our tips are calculated like so: all the tips are divided by the total number of hours worked by all bartenders that shift to create an hourly tip wage. Then tips are divided up according to the hours you worked.

Since we made the change from getting our credit card tips in cash at the end of the night to them going on our paycheck, I kept track of my credit card tips that I was owed so I know what to expect on my paycheck. The gross amount of credit card tips on my paycheck is less than the amount in my records.

I talked to my manager and showed him my records. He said that the person above him changed what I made because the math was wrong. He doesn't understand how it was wrong because he did the math himself, he cannot explain to me why my credit card tips from the nights in question were changed. I trust my manager fully. This other person above him, I do not trust. They do not ever work in the bar as a bartender or manager. They are essentially an HR person who got thrust into doing accounting and payroll when the bar got audited. So basically, this person who changed what I got on my paycheck wasn't there during; they did not tell me they were making these changes before I received my paycheck; and they have yet to offer any detailed explanation except--"idk your manager did the math wrong"

What can I do? Is it in any way illegal for them to change my credit card tips on my paycheck without telling me or giving me an explanation? What recourse do I have besides saying "Screw you guys, I'm going home" ?
