I live in Orlando, FL. I've had renters insurance for a long time now - probably 7 or 8 years. With the uncertainty of what Hurricane Irma is going to do, I got to looking at my renter's policy and realized that the amount that covers my personal belongings is about 30% of what it should be. Unfortunately, because of the imminent Irma, creating new policies AND changing active policies are both locked down.
Ultimately, this is my mistake and hopefully there won't be any issues, but if you live in an area where natural disasters occur, take a look at your policy now and make sure it's up to date.
Actually, regardless of where you live, make sure your renter's policy is always accurate. Fires, pipes bursting, theft and vandalism can happen at any time. Best of luck to everyone in the way of the hurricane and everyone stay safe!
