I wrote this guide up for my friends, hopefully it helps the many people here who are confused.

Check to see if you are effected using the following link

Note DO NOT OPT TO CONTINUE ENROLLMENT Only click "Begin Enrollment" By "continuing" you may wave your right to a class action against Equifax. http://ift.tt/2wME6Jd

.

.

If your data was compromised you will receive one of two messages:

  • Thank You -- Based on the information provided, we believe that your personal information may have been impacted by this incident...
  • Thank You -- Your enrollment date for TrustedID Premier is: xxxxxx Please be sure to mark your calendar...

.

.

Again DO NOT OPT TO CONTINUE ENROLLMENT you may waive your right to a class action lawsuit.

If you see either of these messages, it means you got fucked by Equifax's shit excuse for enterprise financial security have had your SSN, DOB, full address, and potentially DL number stolen. Assume that information is now public data, because if it's not out there already someone's indexing it right now.

WHAT TO DO

The best option you have is to request a CREDIT SECURITY FREEZE with the three major credit bureaus. This will not change your existing lines of credit (loans, credit cards, etc) it simply prevents new lines of credit being opened without your authorization and a secret pin number.

This added level of security will prevent some jackhole from ruining your life. It is not free unless you can provide documentation of your ID theft which is obviously not possible at this time. You may spend up to $30 for each bureau depending on your state (mine was $5ea.)

Links to request a credit security freeze:

DON'T LOSE YOUR PINs YOU WILL REGRET IT

I recommend you print copies of all three pins if you have a secure place to store them. Do not keep them in plain text on your computer! If you're just digital, put them in a password manager like KeePass and make database backups across different drives and preferably to the cloud as well.

Edit: I am by no means an expert on this, and this is probably just a first step in a significantly more complicated life for a lot of us going forward.
