I am about to undertake my first project. Creating a 10'x10', maybe 12'x12' paver patio in my backyard. This is what I have so far, please fill in any holes I'm missing or correct me where I am wrong. First, mark out the area of the patio. Second, dig out 7 inches of ground. Now this is where the problem comes in. I know I need somewhere around 3/4" downward slope away from the house. How do I achieve this uniformly? Third, 3-4 in layer of gravel. Fourth, 1 inch layer of sand. Fifth, lay pavers then seal with sand. Did I miss anything? I am really at odds with getting the slope right so nothing flows towards the house.
