Hey DIYers, first time poster here. I'm moving into my first house on Friday and have next to no furniture. I thought it might be fun to make some of it myself. I have some "outdoor" carpentry experience (sheds, decks, docks) but no experience with furniture. I would like to make a rustic looking coffee table with 2 matching end tables for my living room. Im going to start with the table since I don't have a couch yet and don't know how tall to make the end tables. Planning on making the coffee table 18" tall, 30" wide and 60" long. Planning to use three 2x10x60 pieces of lumber and 1/2 or 3/4 inch black steel plumbing pipe for the legs.So my question for y'all- I have white pine floors, I think some sort of dark wood, or light wood that stains dark would look good with the black metal and light floors. Any suggestions for types of wood to use for this? I'm fairly broke and likely cant afford anything fancy/exotic. I had thought red oak might be nice (sold at home Depot so that's a plus) but my buddy has said it's a very "holey" wood and would require lots of filling to look good. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2h2OBhE
