We vacationed in Australia a few months ago where we rented a car. We are from the US. We opted out of their insurance in favor of my credit card insurance. When returning the car they claimed I damaged it. There was a black small mark underneath the front bumper that I know I didn't cause (also, it's under the car) - unfortunately I didn't take photos before. I didn't report it on the form because I thought it was too small.

They charged my credit card $325 for this bogus claim that I disputed with my card company because I think they are scamming me because I opted out of their insurance.

I didn't choose to use the credit card insurance at the time because I strongly feel this is a bogus charge and I feel scammed.

Well now I've received an email from Dunn and Bradstreet Australia (debt collector) saying they now have the debt and have added $100 to the fee. Incidentally they don't list any contact information and when I google them they only have 13 phone numbers which I cannot dial from the us.

Anyway, if they transfer this case to their American division, what authority do they have to collect it from me? They don't have my SSN. They do have my DOB and address.

I feel this is so unjust and don't want to pay it. But don't want to accrue interest and eventually have to pay it if they have some sort of authority to collect it.
