I just moved to a new apartment a few months ago. I was previously living in a one-bedroom 800 sq. ft. apartment by myself and the electric bill was always around $50-60 a month. I moved in with a roommate into a two-bedroom 1100 sq. ft. apartment and our electric bill has been around $150+ every month!

The apartment is brand new, so the appliances are new too. We have a Nest thermostat and keep the air set at 78 when we're there (we leave it on eco mode when we're not there). My Nest reported 81 hours of cooling last month. I know it's a bigger space, and more people so we run the dishwasher and washer/dryer more frequently, but I wouldn't expect the bill to triple! Is there any way the meter could be wrong?

How can I estimate my costs? How can I figure out what's using all the electricity? I can't believe how crazy high this bill is, especially when we leave the temperature so high. I have friends in similar apartments that keep their AC on 74-75 and have lower electricity bills.
