Hey all - this is kind of weird. I have a Discover Card dating back to 1986 (one year after I was born) in good standing on my credit report. I've not really cared about it in the past, as I thought it was an old account, but that doesn't appear to be the case. There is a balance of $1200 or so, but nothing due so my credit report says. The last payment was July 2017. I don't want to confront my dad about it, but I'm not sure what the deal is with it. There's no derogatory marks.
About a decade ago, he once offered Discover cards to my siblings and I that were apparently linked to his account. I never used it. Is this the case here?
Could I just contact Discover for a new card and pay it off? What do you all suggest? We're on good terms, but I don't want to confront him and seem like I'm accusing him of anything. Nor do I want to contact Discover and cause him hassle.
