Hi Reddit, throwaway account for obvious reasons and I'm not sure if this is better suited for the legal advice subreddit. I don't want to involve any type of courts or things like that if I can help it.
I made the horrible decision to co-sign for this person's credit card. It's a card that is only used at one certain chain of stores and is not any type of big Visa or Mastercard company.
This person not only owes me some money, but has this card in their possession. They are less a part of my life now but I'm looking to completely push them out of my life and I'm worried they might load up on the credit card and refuse to pay on it, leaving me with problems. This person is manipulative and I just want them out of my life, and I'm looking at options if he decides to do something shitty.
This person still believes we are friends so they aren't doing anything super malicious currently. They got two cards in the mail, and they threw away the one with my name on it. I could probably get the number of the card if I wanted. I'm fairly certain 80%+ of the credit is being used on the card currently as well.
TL;DR How do I stop someone I co-signed on a card with, to not impact my credit or leave me with a large sum of money that needs to be paid?
