Hello everyone. Throwaway account here.
Like the title says, I'm currently a sophomore in college with about 40k in student loans taken out. I live in Wisconsin. My girlfriend just called me this morning and broke the news - she got a smiley face on two pregnancy tests last night and will be confirming it at the doctors clinic today.
Here is my situation. I work in IT and I feel confident that I can find a job paying around $2200/mo after taxes. I have the option to live with my parents and pay rent, and I believe my bills will add up to around $800/mo before the baby.
My girlfriend, we'll call her Sarah, currently makes around $25k/yr but I'm not sure that her job is steady from what she has said about it. She has her own place at the moment and will be finishing her bachelor's degree within the next 9 months. She is majoring in School Counseling, which I believe best-case makes around 23-28k/yr starting.
I'm trying to remain as level-headed as I can about it all, and I do plan on finishing my degree because I know that the investment will pay off in the long run. Is there any advice you can give me to get my life ready for what might possibly be my firstborn child?
