Want to buy that thing? Transfer the entire amount right now into your savings account. Still want it in a week? Take a good look at that savings account then take it out and buy it. More often than not, I'd want to leave it in there.
If you're fairly impulsive this might help because you're responding to your impulse but you're channeling it more positively.
