I've been pretty bad here, I've let this go on much longer than it should have w/o addressing it but I'm finally ready to figure-out what's what and get this under control.
Ok, for 2 people there's an average monthly usage of 186 gallons/day (or ~5,500 gallons/month), from what I've gathered in speaking to others, this is abnormally high (first Q- is it, and if so, how bad is this?)
So, in an effort to fix this, I've got a couple things I know are problems, but maybe there's ways I can curtail them - further, maybe there's stuff I haven't even thought of that could help! So, here's the things that I know are contributing to the problem:
- gardening (I must use 5-10 gallons daily on my garden)
- leaky bath/shower tap (this is probably real bad, I could put a bucket there to get a better rate but it's roughly 4-drips / second... I got the Moen tool and pulled the part that's leaky, was unable to fix it, and, sad to say, just forgot about it / left it for 'later', and now months later it's still leaking)
- Laundry Machine: My laundry machine is a POS (the rinse cycle doesn't work right) and, to do a normal load, I basically run it twice - so while there's 2 people, my guess is there's 4-5 people's worth of laundry-water being used..
Besides those 3 items I can't think of anything unusual, there's no leaks in the hose outside (not that it'd be left on w/o someone using it), no other leaky taps besides the shower/bath tap...there's probably 1.5 showers daily (ie 2 people but not two showers daily!).... does 186gal/day make sense in this circumstance? All food is prepped/eaten at home so there's always a good deal of dishes.. I dunno, 186gal/day just seems high even with the 3 factors mentioned, but I'm totally ignorant about water usage so am here hoping you guys can help enlighten me here so that I may get this under control (if that's even possible- for all I know, fixing the washer&shower may not be that big a difference, could just be we use too much water in general?)
