Well this is a sad situation. My mother has been working for the same company for about 25 years, roughly my entire life. Two days ago, her boss comes to the building to announce everyone can either move to the other side of the country or lose their jobs.
Now, my mom has a house paid off where she lives now, and has absolutely no interest in living in a different place for two years. Are there other options for her? She knows very well that she won't be able to find work anywhere near her current pay and at her age (60).
I tried telling her that moving for the last two years before her retirement is probably her best option, but she doesn't trust the company anymore. She believes they will just let her go once she moves. I work in a cut-throat industry and am kind of used to this deal, so I don't really blame her for thinking like that. I'm not too sure what to tell her, or if maybe time will help her see something I don't. She still has till Christmas before the lease on their building is up.
If anyone has any suggestions for her, I'd very much appreciate it.
