I have an offer to go full-time as a front-of-house manager at a restaurant. The owner says he wants to make it worth my while to stay, as he's had problems with managers staying for long (for a variety of reasons- some were newly graduated students using it as a stepping stone, some were adults with bad tempers not cut out for the industry). He says I'm doing a wonderful job, and he trusts me- his mind is at ease when I'm working. So far I've been part-time, but we both want me to move to full-time (it's what the restaurant needs). He's open to hourly/salary discussion, but I'm not sure what to ask for. I was earning $38k at my previous office job plus health insurance and 401k match. I want to make at least that amount or more, especially if I'm giving up most of my nights and weekends.

Do I ask for hourly or salary?
Is $40k + benefits reasonable?

I want to be able to afford a house someday. I'm 30, not married, no kids with about $50k in student loans. I'd like to make $50-60k in my life at some point.
