My SO and I are moving from a tiny, TINY studio (was his place first) to a townhome. Because of the lack of space in our studio we never bought furniture besides a bed and some dressers. Now we are about to move into a bigger place, but no furniture.
Because I want to avoid an infestation, I would rather not buy any used upholstered items, so I am mainly looking for stuff like a dining table and chairs, bookcases, etc. I checked out my city's classifieds, everything is very overpriced or in horrible condition. Financing is something we definitely want to avoid, because we are working on building our credit up again and we also just don't want to overpay for something.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to where we can find decent furniture for cheap? I work weekends so it's difficult to go to garage or estate sales, but is an option we are considering. We also live near some Habitat for Humanity retail stores that we haven't checked yet, but would like to know of r/frugal's experiences with it.
We live in the Portland metro area by the way, in case that inspires any ideas.
Thank you in advance, guys. I just want to avoid the stress of what is supposed to be a positive experience.
