I'm putting an offer in on a house with a finished loft space under a peaked roof.It has two skylights, lighting, carpet, insulation and is around 40' x 12. The strangest thing is that despite this fitment, the highest point is around 6'1' tall, with the entry via a ladder at one end - and is currently a childrens 'getaway'.This will be my first home and this isn't a primary concern- but the room being usable in any meaningful way would certainly give me something to either a) look forward to or b) use to barter my offer down.Would one simply lift the roof up by 3-4' ? Is it a big deal to have an extension that goes above the original roofline? My research suggests that in the UK at least, one needs a minimum clearance of 6'6" at the top of stairs (which this wouldn't manage). My other/last thought would be to open up half of the roof space to the two rooms below to give them higher ceilings and skylights!I'd appreciate any thoughts you might have,Cheers! via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2w3zVsp
