I am looking for a new "range" bad for my bolt action rifle.
I need a pack that I can load up and go the range for a shooting session. I also have access to land that will allow me to shoot further distances, but doing so requires walking quite a far distance through some rough terrain. This is why I am looking for a bag that can haul some weight, but also be used for the local range trip.
At first I was going to pick up either the eberlestock phantom or gunslinger 2 pack. I liked that I could put the rifle in the built in scabbard and have room for sand bags and other shooting essentials. But some people claim that carrying the rifle in the scabbard is highly uncomfortable.
But, I then saw the mystery ranch bags, like the metcalf and the crew crab. With their "nice" system, I can place the gun between the the frame and haul it that way. However, finding first hand experience for using the pack this way has been difficult.
In closing, I'm looking for a bag that will allow me to carry my rifle (maybe two), sandbags, ammo, and other shooting needs, as well as some clothes. I will not be doing multi day hikes, but I need something that I can haul out to the shooting spot and will hold up.
