I work as a RN. We have a nursing assistant on our floor who is extremely hardworking and very nice. She has an infant and works part time. I was asking her about her career goals and she told me she went to nursing school. She went to a private school and only had a few more courses to complete. However, she had to drop out due to financial reasons. She owes the school just under 4,000 dollars and so the school will not release her transcript. Without the transcript, she cannnot finish her education at the community college.

She is making monthly payments to the school but she is only able to pay 100/mo. I Hate that is holding he back and preventing her from making a better life for herself and her son. From what I understand there is no family in the picture who can help her.

I really want to loan her the money but I am that financially speaking this is probably an unwise idea. However I have just under 30k sitting in my emergency fund, a Roth IRA, and a 401k. I have a secure job.

I know I could have the wrong impression of her. She could take the money and run or just refuse to pay me back. But finishing her education in a year could really change her life. If no one helps her, it could mean years in poverty. I probably wouldn't even miss the money.

I'm just conflicted and looking for advice. Thank you!
