A rupture to a water main in my town in New York State caused the collapse of the street where my car was parked. It went in engine-first, to the point where everything in front of the front seats was submerged.
The water company towed my car out of the way and spent the night repairing the damage. The water company supervisor advised us to reach out to their insurance adjuster for reimbursement.
The car is a 2008 sedan that I bought Certified Pre-Owned in 2011. I only have liability insurance on it, so for damage to the car itself it will be me directly dealing with the water company's insurance. Given the pictures of what happened, it's very clear that the car is a total loss.
What do I need to know going in? How should I approach the discussion with the water company's adjuster? Should I try to get my "own" adjuster? I am not sure how else I am supposed to interact with an adjuster for an insurance that I didn't pay for.
