Hey so like the title says my dad has been unemployed for 6 months. He has a college degree and a ton of experience. He has applied to over 60 jobs in this time (he keeps them all in a little book) and hasn't been hired even with jobs with the exact same title he previously had. He has some reason to believe that his former employer is being a poor reference and because of this has removed him from his resume. He has gone to a place that looks at and improves his resume. I know many of you will say he is near retirement or that he should have saved enough by this point but a cancer diagnosis in 2014 drained a lot of this savings.

Retirement isn't really an option for him or my mother at this point and I believe its hard for him to get a job due to his age. Do you have any advice for me that I could give to him that would allow him to find more success. We live in a "larger" city (US) so number of jobs isn't really a problem but he keeps applying and is slightly discouraged that he hasn't gotten one. He keeps applying but I'm sure he would welcome any advice you guys had.

TLDR: Dad has been unemployed for 6 months despite applying for jobs he was definitely qualified for. Advice needed.
