Longtime lurker, first time poster. I have gotten lots of good life advice from this sub over the years.

I have the Capital One Wallet app on my phone, so I see every transaction that happens on my card. This morning I woke up to a pending charge from "RALAND CUSTOM TEST 1", but it is only for $0.60. I have no idea what that is or who is "testing" my account, so I call Capital One and they are just like we will cancel your card and issue you a new one. Since I use the wallet app, I can start using the new number right away.

After I got off the phone, I was wondering if this was a common first step in a scam (like testing if my card number was valid and in good standing with a small transaction). I saw some posts about a specific scam where $9.84 was billed to people but nothing about small "test" transactions.
