My mother and I currently live in one of the poorest areas of our state and are planning a move to a more affluent area. I keep pushing her to reconsider the move until we can have at least one job between us lined up there, but she's adamant that we need to get there.
So my question is, how much would you suggest saving up for such a move without a job in terms of months of expenses after moving costs are paid?
To give an idea of how long it'll take to find a job: I'm an unemployed student (online, so moving won't affect my studies) with exactly zero experience in anything. My mother is in her 60's with nearly 30 years of experience in housekeeping and cleaning in general, plus a few scattered years in food service and retail. She is currently receiving Social Security, so we would continue to receive a small income each month (it's about $1000). The area we are planning on moving to is by the beach and has a lot of hotels, and it's also a college town.
